Better late than never.. La Paz - Cusco - Lima

03. desember 2006 klukkan 00:40
After a lot of hard work it was time for the highest capital in the world... lots of meters over sea level and that is pretty high up. We went to a hostel but it was full (or so said the guy working there, i think that he just didn't want to wake up and help us. But we found a hostel.. that wanted us.. and registered in.. or almost.. they said we have room but come back at 10 then you can get in.. so at 6 in the morning we went for a stroll.. it was really nice.. they have a market in La Paz in Llampu street from 6-10 and we walked around and bought a lot of things. The hostel was a hotel rather then a hostel and our room had a TV in it so we spent some time just hanging and relaxing...
The almost only thing remarkable that happened was that i got robbed... not anything serious just some valuables.. and just f.y.i. the tourist police doesn't always talk English no matter what they say. But it all went ok and we decided to stay until Monday morning and go to this housewarming party a girl we met in Potosi invited us to.
The party was really fun and we really liked all the people we met there.. Thank you Marta you are just so great...and all the others (specially you Cecile) we had so much fun in the 'hottest' club in La Paz.
The next day we met up again with Pauline, a Dutch girl we met in Florinapolis and went to grab a bite to eat in Mongo. The food was good and the company even better. When we were leaving the place we met 3 different groups of guys that all wanted us to stay for a drink but we had to go home and pack and wake up really early so we passed. We said goodbye to Pauline  and packed our things and then off to bed.
It was time to say goodbye... Bolivia we really want to come back, and i know one day we will...
We took a bus straight to Cusco in Peru. The borders are always a thrill to cross.. that node of stress.. are they going to stop us.. do we have everything and finally.. where is the bus.. It seems to be a custom to walk a cross the borders here.
Cusco greeted us with a sunny smile.. it was actually evening but everything seemed so bright and we felt that the world was smiling with us. We shared a taxi with 2 guys to a hostel called Loki. That is a hostel with a big H... its just like a castle with a garden in the middle and lots of hammocks. We decided that after we got our rooms and eat some dinner to check if we could go to Macchu Piccu the next day. So we went to bed early and woke up at 4.30 to buy the train ticket. We thought we bought a ticket back and forth but as it turned out, on the way back the train stooped in the middle of nowhere and everybody should go off.. in the middle of nothing, 1 1/2 hour to Cusco and the only means of transport was with a guy in an unmarked car telling us how much it would cost to get there.. We got home safely, but on the way he stopped in the middle of the road and went out.. of course i shouted at him and found out that the 'poor' guy only had to go to the bathroom... a little paranoid i know but.... well.. It really was a good day.. on the way there we met this fantastic guy from England that we talked to. His name is Lyndon and if I'm lucky i will be like he is when I'm his age. He is 72 years old but looked and acted like a man much younger. A good role model in how to live life alive he is. He is just wonderful through and through.
Macchu Piccu is well worth seeing but people so take some precaution.. like making sure that the train goes all the way back and its really expensive (train ticket (and a taxi if the train doesn't go all the way back), bus ticket, entrance fee and a guide (recommended to enjoy it really.. its less fun seeing it and not knowing what happened in each place)) The quiet and stillness of this place is beyond your wildest dreams. We will put in some pictures but its a must see place...
On the way home in the taxi we remembered that we had just booked a 3 day rafting trip starting the next day.. So as soon as we got to the hostel (around 20.30) we asked them to call Mayuc (the rafting company) and found out that they were just waiting for us (had even tried to call home, to Iceland...) so we rushed down there. Met the guides, payed and went in a frenetic search for everything we needed. Found it, where back at the hostel around 23 and packed up for the trip, showered and went to bed...
At 7.30 the next morning we got up, had some breakfast and kept on going. We met your travel company, 3 guys from Kanada ; Gord, Troy and Johnny boy. The guides were Santiago, Segudo and Pedro. The river is called Apurimac and had rapids from 3-5.. We laughed, fooled around and eat (the guides proved out to be great chefs) and talked. When the 3rd and final day came we only had one request... can we stay longer. Even though we were bruised, dirty and really tired we wanted more. But we had to leave and we came to Cusco on a Friday night. The group decided to meet up and watch the video from the trip in a club, but we overslept and came there 45 min to late and by then no one of them were there... a really sad ending.. but if you guys are reading this (Gord, Troy and Johnny) thanks a lot for a really good time and hope we can get some videos from you.
We spent the Saturday looking for a plain ticket and finally got one at 7 am to Lima on a Sunday morning. So we had some drinks with a group from Ireland at the hostel and didn't go to bed until 2.30.. YAWN.. waking up at such hours was not your kind of thing but we got our plane and on our way to Lima.
At the airport we got a taxi, and he waited for us while we bought tickets to Colombia on the 21.
The taxi was a brand new Toyota and we felt like princesses going through the city. In Lima there is another Loki hostel and of course we went there. Got there had some breakfast and then took a nap... When we woke up we went to 'all you can eat seafood buffet' mmmm we eat so much that we could barely walk afterwards (calamaris, squids, sushi and more) not to forget about the desserts....
Went back to Loki and talked with Neil, Glider and Daithi. Booked a paragliding course for the next day, and then we had some beers and talked to Neil and your roommates Eva from Kanada and Fred from Holland.
Aerodome extreme is the company of Mike and he teaches you to glide and than takes you gliding. In Lurin (a sand desert just outside of Lima) he let us glide down on our own.. I only manage to do 4 glides and then i could not do more because of my knee but Lilja did 6.. shes so hard core, doesn't do anything halfway. And then we went to Lima and he took us, one by one and we went over houses, off cliffs and around for about 20 min each. Its so worth it.. really recommended.
After a really good day we went back to the hostel with red wine and chocolate and spent the night watching a video ('in her shoes' and 'Constantine') with Neil and 2 boys from the states... Bought some Loki T-shirts that we are going to brag about when we go home.. and then we went to bed. We woke up at 5.15 to go to the airport, checked in and went to the VIP lounge (thanks for the card dad) until it was time to bord.
We said our goodbyes to Peru and as in most of the country's we had the longing to see more and come back to discover new things.
Colombia here we come...
So i don't have more time to wright more now.. but ill write soon... we are in Colombia leaving to Panama and then Cuba... See you all someday soon i hope.. lots of love
